Gilbert Arenas on the difference between he and Kobe

Posted by gilbertology on December 25th, 2006 in Gilbert's Thoughts

“I’m glad what I’m doing is on national television so they can finally see what I did in the past; my 29 [points per game last season] is not a fluke. What I did in the playoffs is not a fluke. What I’ve done the last five years is not a fluke. Everybody says, ‘Oh, he’s not better than this person, he’s not better than that person.’ But if you go year by year, number-wise, what’s the difference between me and Kobe? He had Shaq. He got three rings. Other than that, my numbers are blowing his out of the water the first six years in the league.”

What irritates me is that how Arenas commends Kobe for his 81 points and then when Gilbert scores 60, he gets blasted for being selfish and undeserving. Gilbert Arenas in my opinion is one of the hardest working players in the league, if not the hardest because of all he had to overcome. I watched him when he was with Arizona. He was good then. I disagreed when he came out early, but then I saw after a couple years in the NBA what I saw at Arizona. This is a genuine athlete who has a chip on his shoulder because he was only a second round pick, cares about his team winning, and is a great guy off the court. Ever watch the Directv NBA league pass commercial? When asked what the favorite moment of last year was, Arenas says ” Kobe scoring 81.” That’s class. And for Kobe to downplay the importance of Arenas’s 60 that downed his Lakers is a selfish act in a series of selfish acts from the Laker star.

i’ve always been a fan of Gilbert. I agree with Eric abou the chip on the shoulder, now i sit back and wonder why was he chosen in the 2nd round. Who called him a fluke?? Arenas is no fluke, he’s talented, and he can only get better. The Wizards remind me of the Suns, high scoring team, but they can certainly better themselves by playing some consistent defense

To Eric and Whitney: THANK YOU!!! That what I’m being trying to tell these Kobe-lovers after three (now four) comments [for my comments, look under Gilbert's Thoughts-Gilbert Arenas on Kobe Bryant’s Comments].

Kobe is a not liked in the DC area so he needs to go sit a spin, I would love to get close enough to him so I can tell him some facts about Gil and then give him some choice words for himself. I can’t stand him!
