Second returns of 2007 NBA All-Star Balloting finds Gilbert on the Bench

The second returns of the 2007 NBA All-Star Balloting were just announced and it looks like Gilbert will have to once again depend on the coaches for a vote in. Gilbert is currently 3rd among Eastern Conference guards after Allen Iverson’s votes were transferred to the West but is still substantially behind Vince Carter, 2nd among guards. Vince Carter has actually increased his lead over Gilbert despite Zero’s performance this month.

After the first returns Gilbert was 207,440 votes behind Vince.
Vince Carter (NJ) 433,363; Gilbert Arenas (Wash) 225,923

After the second returns, Gilbert is now 231,279 votes behind.
Vince Carter (NJ) 726,040; Gilbert Arenas (Wash) 494,761

If All-Star voting ended today, the starters in the 2007 all-star game would be as follows:
East: Dwyane Wade, Vince Carter, LeBron James, Chris Bosh, Shaquille O’Neal
West: Kobe Bryant, Tracy McGrady, Kevin Garnett, Tim Duncan, Yao Ming

as much as i enjoy the idea of fan interaction, i don’t see how it can work. although vince should be voted in, i dont see how he can logically be voted in ahead of gil. gil is in the top 20 in the league in scoring, assists, steals, and rebounds. carter isn’t even in the top 50 in assists and steals. what i see from this is that gil makes everyone around him better - making his offensive production all the more impressive. meanwhile, carter benefits from the court vision of one of the best points to play the game. it also illustrates what’s wrong with the game today. too many people go for the showy dunks and no longer appreciate the beauty of the game, in and of itself …

Vince over Gil is freaking ridiculous. Any NBA diehart would say the same thing.

Vince over Gilbert is awful and shows you why fans should not vote for all stars. Similarly, Tracy McGrady and Shaq do not deserve all star bids this year.
