What was Marc Stein Thinking? Gilbert Arenas vs Michael Redd

Posted by gilbertology on December 30th, 2006 in Commentary

In Marc Stein’s First Trimester Report Awards, he gives Michael Redd the nod over Gilbert for East MVP of the Trimester. Don’t get me wrong, Redd is a great player and both Redd and Arenas are some of the better 2nd round picks of all time but last time I checked (right now), Washington is first in the Southeast division while the Bucks are last in the Central playing .500 basketball. Stein’s reasoning?

Arenas was shaky in November before this otherworldly December.

Let’s talk numbers -
Arenas is averging 30.7 points to Redd’s 27.8. Advantage Arenas.
Arenas is averaging 4.3 rebounds to Redd’s 3.6. Advantage Arenas.
Arenas is averaging 6.4 assists to Redd’s 2.2. Advantage Arenas.
Arenas is averaging 2.0 steals to Redd’s 1.4. Advantage Arenas.
Arenas is averaging .03 blocks to Redd’s .17. Advantage Redd.
Arenas is averaging .443 FG% to Redd’s .471. Advantage Redd.
Arenas is averaging .834 FT% to Redd’s .847. Advantage Redd.
Arenas is averaging .408 3P% to Redd’s .366. Advantage Arenas.
Arenas is averaging 39.7 minutes to Redd’s 39.2. Advantage Arenas.

But most importantly, Gilbert has Gilbertology and there is no such thing as Reddology.

Redd doesn’t even have that much help in Milwaukee but is starting to play a more diverse game

Isn’t it then more remarkable that Gilbert is able to do all this with 2 20-point scorers on his team? If Jamison and Butler were not on the team, can you image the amount of points Gilbert would be putting up?

My question is, doesn’t Marc Stein know that Gilbert feeds off the doubters? I guess Marc will just have to see for himself the next time the Wizards play the Bucks which just so happens to be the next 2 games for the Wizards. Get your popcorn ready and enjoy the Gilbert Arenas show.

Yeah, totally agree. I was going to post about this, but you said it better. I’d love it if you made this a diary!

Redd is alright AND underated by the fans but he is nowhere near Gil’s greatness. Plus, i think Redd has a conscience preventing him from posting 60 and 54 in the same Week and doing sit-ups in his hotel room to “fill the time” between 2 nocturnal trainings.

I don’t understand Gil’s lack of recognition. Damn putting Redd ahead of Gil is only an insult to Gil’s talent. He is in the upper category, with the top players in the world. Comparing Arenas to Bryant or Nash is okay but not Michael Redd.

    Tythegreat supports the gilbertology movement.

I hope Marc Stein and others keep it up. It makes them easy to spot as a fool and I want Gil to have his fire fueled for a long time. Gil is the best thing going in the NBA.
