Gilbert Arenas gains on Vince Carter but it may be too Little, too Late

The third returns of the 2007 NBA All-Star Balloting were just announced and Gilbert’s December performance may have won him some votes. Gilbert is currently 3rd among Eastern Conference guards behind Vince Carter and Dwayne Wade.

After the first returns Gilbert was 207,440 votes behind Vince.
Vince Carter (NJ) 433,363; Gilbert Arenas (Wash) 225,923

After the second returns, Gilbert was 231,279 votes behind.
Vince Carter (NJ) 726,040; Gilbert Arenas (Wash) 494,761

After the third returns, Gilbert is now 220,156 votes behind.
Vince Carter (NJ) 867,437; Gilbert Arenas (Wash) 647,281

You can vote for Gilbert daily at NBA.com but it’s okay if you vote for Vince over Gilbert, after all, that’s what Gilbert would do if he were a fan voting:

“If I’m a fan? Then you go the way it is now: D-Wade, Vince, LeBron.”

You know, I ask myself every day how a douchebag like Vince Carter is getting more votes than a great guy like Gilbert. It’s a mind boggler. I mean, Vince Carter represents everything people should hate about basketball, and Gil represents everything we should love. I’m deadly serious here. I just don’t get it. You could argue that the Washinton media market is responsible, but Vince was in Toronto and now he’s in New Jersey. So that can’t be it either. It’s a mystery.
