Gilbert wears Green for St. Patrick’s Day

After the game in a postgame interview on Saturday against New Orleans, a reporter pointed out to Arenas, who was wearing a white t-shirt and jeans, that he wasn’t wearing any green for St. Patrick’s Day. Gilbert proceeded to pull a $50 bill out of his pocket and said “BAM!” Not getting the reaction he expected, he added, “You never did that in school? You don’t have green on, so you pull out money?”

On a side note, congrats to to Gilbert for the birth of his baby boy on Friday!

College players wearing #0 because of Gilbert

Posted by gilbertology on March 16th, 2007

Lee Jenkins has written an article entitled Arenas an agent for zero’s popular growth where he discusses how Gilbert’s #0 is now a trendy selection in U.S. college ranks. Some interesting tidbits from the article:

  • At least 20 tournament teams have had a player in the program this season with jersey No. 0 or No. 00.
  • What Michael Jordan did for No. 23, Gilbert Arenas has done for No. 0.
  • “You go with the zero when you’ve been through something and you are looking to get a new beginning. It helps you get going again. It helps you get the swag back.” - Russell Westbrook, UCLA
  • “No matter who you are, wearing the number means something. It means that you’ve got to be more than a zero.” - Aaron Brooks, Oregon Ducks
  • “The zero is a powerful statement. It is for anybody who feels unappreciated or feels like somebody is telling them that they are worth nothing.” - Gilbert Arenas

Gilbertology Ritual

Posted by gilbertology on March 16th, 2007

About two hours before tip-off against the Miami Heat, Gilbert Arenas was spotted in a concrete basement stairwell underneath the Verizon Center, moving very slowly up the stairs. He looked more like a patient recovering from hip surgery than a professional athlete as he put his right foot on the next step, then carefully placed his left foot next to his right. “Hey, you all right?” Arenas was asked. “Yeah, I’m OK,” he replied. “Ritual.”
