Posted by gilbertology on July 29th, 2007

Fox Sports has an article about Ron Artest and Stephon Marbury engaging in an all-out war of bizarre quotes, wacky cameos and insane headlines this summer. But despite that, Gilbert Arenas still reigns as the NBA’s greatest “Internet Celebrity”:

In the end, Gilbert Arenas will always be the prince of the blogs. Agent Zero was the first and finest to capture the attention of this landscape, and for that his throne will never be usurped.

Breaking the Habit

Posted by JakeTheSnake on July 28th, 2007

In Gil’s latest blog, he talked about how Cheetos were tempting him to break his diet, and since we just can’t have Gilbert lose his amazing physique, here are 10 reasons that he should resist the temptation.

Top Ten Reasons Gilbert Arenas Shouldn’t Eat Cheetos:

  1. The Mix & Move Machine on cheetos.com doesn’t have Gilbert’s trademark “”I just won $20,000″ breakdance on it.
  2. Cheetos would rob him of his strength, making it harder for him to shoot one handed 3 pointers. (For the record, I think that’s how he’s going to make the 100,000 shots, he’s going to shoot with both hands!)
  3. He’d never be able to eat more Cheetos than Bryant “Big Country” Reeves.
  4. Cheetos are marketed as being “Dangerously Cheesy” but is there anyone that’s cheesier than Gilbert? Exactly.
  5. Those cheese stains would look really hideous on those gold alternate jerseys.
  6. Bryant Reeves would ask for a tryout with the Wizards.
  7. Even worse than getting cheese stains on his jersey, imaging the cheese crumbs that would get stuck in his beard.
  8. If Gilbert is lactose intolerant and he started eating Cheetos, he’d have to change his nickname from Hibachi to HiBean-o.
  9. I don’t think anyone wants to see Gilbert on Shaq’s Big Challenge.
  10. Quite frankly, I think he should have some Cheez Doodles.

Gilbert’s Numbers Don’t Quite Add Up

Posted by gilbertology on July 26th, 2007

Gilbert Arenas says he wants to make 100,000 shots in 73 days.

That is roughly 1370 made shots per day.

He says he is shooting 69.7% from the NBA 3-point line and 79.3% from the college 3-point line but doesn’t say how many of each he takes, so let’s just simplify it a little and assume he makes roughly 75% of his shots.

That means he needs to take around 1827 shots a day.

But wait! On his blog he mentions shooting 5000 a day.

I know people will look at the 69 percent from the NBA three for me and be like, “Oh, that’s nothing,” but when you’re shooting 5,000 shots a day, believe me, that’s pretty good.

Which means he is making around 3750 shots/day. At that pace, he will be done with 100,000 made shots in 27 days. If he goes the full 73 days at his current pace he will have made 273,750 shots.

Update: Let’s figure he does shoot 5000 shots a day. At 3 seconds per shot, it would take Gilbert over 4 hours to complete a session. At 5 seconds a shot, it would take Mr. Quality Shots almost 7 hours to complete.

Which could mean many things:

1) Gilbert may not be that good at math. He did leave Arizona early.
2) It was a typo and he really meant he’s going to be making 270,000 shots
3) He takes the weekends and some days off (but Agent Zero never rests?)
4) For his next blog post, Gilbert will update us on our progress by announcing he already got 100000 and is now going for a more realistic number - 300000
