Former University of Arizona standout Gilbert Arenas will join the likes of Salim Stoudamire and Hassan Adams to play in the Lute Olson All-Star Classic game this Sunday. Arizona has been considering pitting 1997 players against those from other years, although rosters have not been released. Arenas recently joked about the game in his blog:
I heard that Mike Bibby is hosting a 1997 championship reunion at Arizona and I’m supposedly going to be there,” Arenas wrote. “Why am I going to be there? I didn’t win a championship. We lost to DUKE! The man I lost to in the (2001) championship (Mike Krzyzewski) is the man who cut me from Team USA. He cut me like Arizona beat Duke and he wanted payback. I think that’s the hardest part. I was thinking because they won that he was going to help me on the team, you know, maybe he’d feel sorry for me.
The game takes place at the McKale Center at 1 p.m. on Sunday. Proceeds from the game will benefit the Arizona Cancer Center Bobbi Olson Fund.
