Gilbert Knows His Refs

In light of the Tim Donaghy scandal, Wizards’ beat writer Ivan Carter had a conversation with Gilbert Arenas on the matter. Why would Carter go to Arenas? Well, as Carter puts it:

Arenas is a great guy to speak with about ref matters because few players in the league spend as much time as he does evaluating how individual refs call games. I can personally recall several situations when Gil was sitting in the lockeroom before a game, went over the list of that night’s refs and made a comment like “Oh, gotta go hard to the hole tonight, this guy gives and ones” etc.

A couple of other quick notes from that article:

  • Gilbert says his knee is feeling fine, but he’s still not comfortable with it yet.
  • Despite Andray Blatche’s recent problems, Gilbert remains confident that they’ll re-sign him and is apparently Blatche’s biggest supporter in the locker room.
