Gilbert Arenas > Richard Jefferson

In Gilbert’s latest blog, he jokes about his former Arizona Wildcat teammate Richard Jefferson:

Me and Richard, for some reason, always end up having a bragging session when we’re around each other and try to out-do one another. For some reason, he thinks he’s better than me. He can’t fathom that he’s only the third best player from Arizona, and I’m No. 1. He just hates that I’m No. 1. He hates to see me on my own video game, he hates that I’m a three-time All-Star, he hates the fact that he only got a bronze medal … all of that. He is bitter about it.

Now comes word that Jefferson has made the largest donation ever by a current professional athlete to his former school when he pledged $3.5 million to help finance Arizona’s practice facility. The cause of the donation? University of Arizona development director Erika Hanson and former manager Jack Murphy struck a nerve with Jefferson when they threatened to ask Arenas to donate.

“That was their main selling point,” Jefferson said. “They said ‘Hey, if we can’t ask you, we’re going to ask Gilbert next.’ I was like, ‘OK. Whatever the number is, we’re going to figure it out.’ ”

With Arenas set to sign a max contract next year, Jefferson thinks Arenas should think about donating even more.

“…Gilbert, he’s going to sign for more than all of us make. He has no excuses.”

Gilbert has always been a charity guy. Will he top Jefferson again for more bragging rights? Don’t bet against Agent 0.
