The newest issue of Dime Magazine with Greg Oden on the cover has a page where Gilbert gives 10 reasons why 2008 will be known as “The Takeover: Reloaded.”
Among the interesting tidbits, many of which, he has already shared on his NBA.com blog, he talks about the rudest thing an NBA player has ever said to him. It was Gary Payton in his rookie year in which Payton scored 16 straight points in the first couple of minutes in the game. Arenas was scared and his confidence was shattered. Then Payton said to him:
“You’re lucky I’m not an A.I. type of player. I would score 50 on you in the first half.”
Gilbert says that to this day, everytime he plays against Payton, he tries to score 35 on him in the first quarter.

Well Payton is gone from the NBA now, so thats over. That sounds just like Payton, hes a tough kind of guy.

GP’s comments were rude? Man….that’s nothing! You hear some serious trash on the court, and for Zero to be affected by this? Come on. And the line: “Arenas was scared and his confidence was shattered.”

common….arenas never scored over 25 on payton in a whole game!!but 35 in the 1st quarter????too bad that payton is out of nba..

Gary Peyton is a BIG JERK!!!!!!
My 11 year old son is in a traveling basketball team.
Peyton was at an Anaheim Tournament and when my son asked for a picture he flat responded NO! My son use to look up to him and Peyton just made him HATE him!
PEYTON Please dont show up to kids basketball tournaments if your going to be so freaken RUDE!!!!!! JERK!!!!!!!
How do you expect not to be recognized in a basketball tournament and show up dressed in white from head to toe and not want to be bothered?! A**HOLE!!!!!!!
