Remain Calm

Posted by JakeTheSnake on August 30th, 2007

Actually, go crazy. Gilbert has taken over the NBA, now he’s going to take over the airwaves! From ESPN magazine via D.C. Sports Bog:

Inspired in part by the popularity of his blog, Gilbert Arenas is bringing Gilbertology to a library, TV and laptop near you. In addition to writing a hoops-themed self-help book, the quirky Wizards guard will be the gaming guru in a video series for FoxSports.com, and is pitching a reality series that would place him in Simple Life-like settings, tentatively shooting next year. Agent Zero is also developing a cartoon series centering on himself as a child. How that would differ from his real life is unclear.

So all you cartoonists out there (*cough*) need to get cracking on ideas on what Gilbert would look like in a cartoon series.

First Submission to the GilsArena.com Essay Contest

Posted by gilbertology on August 30th, 2007

As you might already know, Gilbert’s giving away 3 Spalding Courts in an essay contest on why you are the one that needs or deserves the court. The contest will run until October 1st on GilsArena.com.

Well, it looks like we have the first public submission and will give you an idea of the competition.

Dear Agent Zero,

I personally believe that U.S. Americans are unable to have great basketball courts because, uh, some, uh… people out there in our nation don’t have basketball courts, and, uh, I believe that our basketball courts like such as in South Africa and, uh, the Iraq everywhere like, such as and… I believe that they should, our basketball courts over here in the U.S. should help the U.S., err, uh, should help South Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries, so we will be able to build up our future basketball courts for our….

Sincerely,

WCK

It reads surprisingly like Miss South Carolina from the Miss Teen USA 2007 contest.

Interesting tidbit from EA Sports

Posted by JakeTheSnake on August 30th, 2007

Remember the Buzzer Beater trailer EA came out with a few weeks ago that ended with Gilbert’s signature walkoff after releasing the shot?

It might actually be in the game, from NBA Live 08’s Producer Blog:

1.) Will players have their individual signature movements like shots and emotions (ex: After clutch shot Kobe Pumps his fist)?

Signature Go To Moves is a pretty cool new feature that we are doing this year. There has been quite a bit of coverage in the gaming press on this the last few weeks so if you haven’t heard about it yet I would suggest you check out some of those articles. The important thing to know about them is that they don’t require a special button presses or controller move to make happen- they are just shots that happen under the right contextual circumstances for certain players. For example, if you get Kevin Garnett in the post and shoot a fadeaway jumper you will get KG’s fadeaway and not a generic one. This is really the evolution of the signature jump shots that we did last year, but this year you get full on signature moves instead of just jump shots.

We also do a lot of signature dunks, lay-ups, and passes for certain players, but these are baked into each player’s table of possible actions so they don’t happen 100% of the time. You will on occasion see Steve Nash pull off a pass that no one else in the game can do, or have T-Mac throw down a signature dunk on the break.

Finally, we have added in about 15 to 20 signature celebrations this year as well as some more generic ones that can be used by a variety of players. We wanted to make sure that these don’t get overused, so we tuned them so that they will only play in big game situations. We didn’t want people to see these all the time and get sick of them, so it may take you a while to spot them all.

So it doesn’t say definitively that they’ll have Gil’s walkoff move on there, but I can’t envision a scenario where they wouldn’t have it, considering he’s on the cover.

Gilbert Can’t Find His Passport

Posted by gilbertology on August 29th, 2007

NBA Live 08 Cover Athlete Gilbert Arenas was suppose to travel to Canada this week to host NBA LIVE Summer Camp, cook lunch on a hibachi, record a commercial, and have his go-to moves authentically represented through motion capture but none of that happened. Apparently, Arenas misplaced his passport and couldn’t fly into Canada. Boston’s Paul Pierce did a voiceover for a commercial in his place. So when NBA Live comes out Oct 2nd and Gilbert’s go-to move doesn’t look like him, you’ll know why.
