Gilbert just hit a three-pointer to send the Wizards-Pacers game into overtime.  Obviously there will be more on this later, but just in case you were worried, Hibachi is back.  The Takeover: Reloaded is already in full swing.

Gilbert wants Kobe to Stay out West….

Posted by gilbertology on October 30th, 2007

so he can continue to get All-Star appearances:

We already got rid of A.I. from the Eastern Conference and sent him to the West, so now it’s me and Dwyane Wade at the starting guards. If Kobe comes, who does that hurt? Come on Commissioner Stern, please? Whatever deal has Kobe coming East, just say, “No thank you.” Keep him on the West for me. I mean I’m an All-Star starter now, getting voted in by the fans. If you look at Kobe’s votes, he is leading the league in votes. That only hurts me if he comes here. Come on Kobe, I understand you want to come East but go ahead and stay on the West. Look out for your No. 1 fan.

Yes indeed, Gilbert has updated his blog, and says the Gilbert to the Lakers rumors for Kobe ain’t going to happen:

Nothing against getting traded, but that would be a dumb thing on the part of the team who is accepting me because, don’t they know I’m a free agent? What that means is, if you lose somebody who you really want and you come get me back and I leave too … TA-DAH! That means you have nothing.

So take my name out of it because whoever gets me, there ain’t a guarantee that I’m staying.

TrueHoops thinks he is just saying that.

Gilbert Gives Away $62,000 with More to Come

Posted by gilbertology on October 30th, 2007

Just as he did last year, Gilbert will once again be “scoring for schools” this year. Gilbert held a live lottery at the Verizon center where students and teachers of many of the schools attended. Gilbert pledged to donate $100 for every point he scores during home games while the Wizards owner will match it for away games giving 82 lucky schools some much needed donations. But for those schools who stayed at the lottery and weren’t picked, they didn’t go away empty handed. For those 62 schools, Gilbert gave each of them a $1000 consolation prize.

Gilbert Arenas

The Washington Post has more of the story including a great answer by Gilbert:

“What inspired you to start shooting for money?” Arenas was asked yesterday afternoon by a quiet boy who had printed his question in pencil on lined notebook paper.

“Because,” the 6-foot-4 ball player answered gently, leaning forward toward the boy, who was about half of Arenas’s height, “I always dreamed of a player doing it for my school.”

The Wizards official site has the schedule and will have updated results of the total amount of points and money donated. Last year, Gilbert raised over $215,000 for Washington DC schools.
