I would think he has to show he can still play at a high level given his surgeries to get the best deal possible even if its still with the Wizards. Plus he really wants to go to the olympics next summer - I would think he needs to show the powers that be that he can play to have a chance of making the team. Dead on about Gilbert proving his doubters wrong. He's always looking for things to put the chip back on shoulder. You can tell from his blog entries that all these people saying the team is better without him may be bugging him.
