30 Minute Abs? Weak!

Posted by JakeTheSnake on January 23rd, 2008

I’ll let you all argue over whether or not Gilbert’s latest claim is real or not (via DC Sports Bog):

Gilbert, on the return of Etan Thomas to the locker room: “You know what’s so funny?…He came in and he was doing sit-ups. I was like, ‘I haven’t done sit-ups for like two months. Now that you came in here I’m back in the sit-up thing. Because if you can do it, I can do it.’ ”

How many sit-ups did Thomas’s return elicit from Gilbert? “I don’t know, I didn’t count,” he said. “About an hour’s worth.” Non-stop? “Non-stop,” he said, which I’d tend to doubt, but we have seen Gilbert perform amazing feats during crunch time.

If he’s telling the truth, yowza.  I’d like to see Travis Outlaw try and match that.

Gilbert, Hook This Man Up!

Posted by JakeTheSnake on January 22nd, 2008

A few weeks back you may remember a post that linked to Oly Sandor’s argument that Gilbert should sit this season out.  Well, SVPStyle points out that in the comments section of that post that a baller name Sidney Pointer (not Sidney Poitier) asked for Gil’s help:

Agent 0 this is Sidney Pointer from Chattanooga,TN. I recently attended a workout for the Utah Flash. They told me that I was high on there List. But didn’t any thing happen. So I was wondering could you help a guy out trying to get connected playing ball in the states or overseas. Please help me out and contact me asap. Thanks so much.

You can also find a highlight reel of Pointer at SVPStyle.

Gil II Zero Undrcrwn

icecold_prvw.jpg

Excepted to be available in April and limited to 1000, the shoe has an “ice cold” theme with inspiration from platinum chains and diamond-studded medallions.

The inspiration was actually from Gilbert’s game with a touch of the hood. I wanted the shoe to be able to be worn on your feet or around your neck. Now thanks to Gil’s injury, they can be used on your knee as well. Apply ice every 20-minutes.

All-Star Starter, 2nd Team All-NBA, 6th Man?

Mike Wise is reporting that when Gilbert returns from his injury (new target date: March 1st) you might not see him in the starting lineup:

“I haven’t told coach this, but I’m considering just coming off the bench when I come back, I just don’t want to mess up the sync right now, you know? They got a nice thing going. When I do go in there, I want it to be free-flowing, not try to slowly get it back and slow everyone else down.”

How Much Stuffing Does That Require?

Posted by JakeTheSnake on January 18th, 2008

In his first blog of the new year, Gilbert talked about the gifts he got for his kids. I know this entry has already been talked about, but I think the most interesting part of the blog went unnoticed. Check out this passage:

I’m having the train set for my kids set up in a couple days, but all the other toys from F.A.O. Schwartz came in. They enjoyed it. My daughter got her first little three-year old bike and she got her little BMW car, so she had fun with that. She also got a life-size elephant stuffed animal.

Now according to wikipedia, elephants average about 13 ft. tall and 7500 pounds. Of course the life-sized stuffed elephant would be considerably lighter, but it still begs to ask the question: How is Gilbert’s daughter going to play with this life-sized stuffed elephant? She can’t exactly take it over to her friend’s house, or hug it, or anything else that you’d do with a normally sized stuffed animal. I can’t see anyway that this doesn’t turn into a giant, fluffy paperweight.

If that didn’t baffle you enough, consider this: How did Gilbert hide the elephant from his daughter until Christmas morning? I mean, there’s the whole “elephant in the room” expression, and then there’s hiding a 13 ft. tall stuffed animal.
