The Number One Reason That Gilbert Should Never Leave Washington

Posted by JakeTheSnake on February 1st, 2008 in Did You Know

Since Gilbert went down with his most recent knee injury, there have been some that have clamored that the Wizards should trade Gilbert since they’re “better” without him.  Now we all know that that assertion is ridiculous and just out and out incorrect, but even if the Wizards were “better” there’s one clear reason why the Wizards should never get rid of Gil.

Gilbert averages more points against Washington than he does any other team in the NBA.  If you don’t believe, check out Gilbert’s career splits against every team.  The 29.3 points per game he averaged against Washington in his Golden State days (on 57% shooting from the field and 45% from beyond the arc) is more than he averages against any other team.  This is mainly due to the 41 point performance he put on against Michael Jordan and co. in 2003, which at the time was his career high.  Keep in mind that he did that in his first two years in the league, just think what he’d do now if the Wizards decide not re-sign him.  I’d rather not find out.

    They shouldn’t trade gil.. why?
it’s because they will be more dangerous when he comes back.. caron is having the best season in his career.. antawn picked it up a a little although he is really consistent his entire career, i think he is a bit better now.. when gil comes back.. they will score easy… add a young center and PF who can do the dirty job at end game and we have a championship team.. i feel a little sorry for AD though,, coz he will have to give up game time for GIl.. kudos to him though for filling up quite well while agent zero is gone… ^^

Irvin,a 32 year old AD will be more than happy to give up most of his minutes to Gil again. As of late, we’ve seen the team play without much energy. AD and most of our starters are tired. Since the Dallas game, we’ve got blown out more than twice. And other than Mason and Blatche, we’ve really got no one to rely to off the bench. And with these blowouts, we can just use our bench out there, more time for our starters to rest, and more time for our rookies to develop confidence (mainly Mcguire) out there. AD off the bench means we’ll have a vet out there along with our young inexperienced players. And I’m all for having Blatche start over Jamison for the next few games. Jamison’s really Banged up right now. Once Gilbert and Etan comes back, we’ll have our starting roster back at full speed and another great energy guy off the bench. I feel this team can still get to atleast the 4th seed once we get a fully healed Gil back in the next 2-3 weeks.
