See The Many Suitstyles of Gilbert

Posted by JakeTheSnake on March 24th, 2008

Dan Steinberg takes a look at Gilbert’s different looks on the bench during his injury.  Hopefully he won’t add any more new fashions to the list this season, but if he does I’d like to see him rock the Jalen Rose draft edition special:

Missing the Hibachi Shoe Debut

Posted by gilbertology on March 24th, 2008

CNBC has an article on Gilbert’s shoes and how Arenas was set debut his TS Lightswitch Gil X Benihana shoes last night.

It would be nice if the story was, “Arenas is on fire against Pistons as he wears Hibachi shoes.”

See? No worries.

If you saw the Wizards-Pistons game tonight, you saw that Gilbert did in fact make his way back to the Verizon Center after being told that he wasn’t cleared to play tonight.  He told Mike Jones about what led to the decision by the doctors not to play:

I said I was 90 percent and that 10 percent with the docs kept me from playing. I thought we had an understanding that this would be the day I made my comeback, but I guess they want to wait another week and see how things are.

He also talked to Ivan Carter about why the decision frustrated him so much:

I went in there hoping to have them look at the knee and say I could play. Then, (the doctor) told me I need one more week. I understand, he’s the doctor, but it wasn’t what I wanted to hear. It took me a long time to get my mind right about coming back at at all and today, I was there. I wanted to play. Now, how do I know that I’m going to be ready next week? What’s going to change next week? At the end of the day, it might be the right thing, but it wasn’t what I wanted to hear.

Gilbert Not Cleared To Play Tonight

Posted by JakeTheSnake on March 23rd, 2008

Here’s the latest:

Gilbert Arenas wanted to play tonight but the medical staff would not clear him. Arenas went through shootaround this morning and was preparing himself to play all day long and was obviously angry at the decision. When I approached him, he said something that I can’t repeat hear but the clean version is something along lines of “Now, they are messing with my mind.”

He walked out of the locker room without speaking with reporters and will not be on the bench tonight because he said he does not a have sports coat (which is required by the NBA’s dress code).

On his way out of the door, he said: “Ya’ll don’t have to write anymore. I’m not coming back this season.”

Like Ivan suggests afterward, I don’t think Gilbert is going to miss the rest of the season because they wouldn’t clear him tonight.  He really had his heart set on playing tonight (hence why he didn’t have a sports coat with him) and when you hear that you can’t play, it makes you panic a little bit and think that maybe the injury is worse than it really is.  Just give him a little time to cool off and he’ll be fine.

Gilbert Could Possibly Play Tonight

Posted by JakeTheSnake on March 22nd, 2008

Ivan Carter has the latest update on Gil’s status:

Guard Gilbert Arenas didn’t rule himself out of tonight’s game against the Detroit Pistons at Verizon Center, but he didn’t rule out making his comeback either.

It still looks more likely that Gilbert will comeback during the Western road trip that starts Tuesday in Portland, but Gilbert has always had a flair for the dramatic, so don’t count out a chance for Gilbert to make his return in front of the home crowd for a big game against the Pistons tonight.
