Everyone Agrees, Gilbert is One of The Top 5 Wizards of All-Time

Posted by JakeTheSnake on March 14th, 2008

USA Today recently came out with their list of the top 5 Wizards of all time.  As you would expect, Gilbert made the list, along with Wes Unseld, Elvin Hayes, Gus Johnson, and Earl Monroe.  In the article you’ll also see that they ask Wizards broadcaster Phil Chenier and USA Today reader who their top 5 were and Gilbert made it on both lists.

As great as the accomplishment is, it pales in comparison to being number 3 on the Bullets Forever top 20.

Getting Ready For The Comeback, Musically

Posted by JakeTheSnake on March 12th, 2008

As Gilbert gets closer and closer to making his comeback (knock on wood) it’s time for us as fans to be prepared for what will happen when he makes his return. With the Nationals working on music choices for the new park, maybe it’s time that we think about a comeback song for Gilbert. Even if Gilbert likely makes his comeback during the Wizards’ road trip out west, his first game back at the Verizon Center is still going to be a big deal and I think it needs a song.

Here’s some ideas (feel free to add others)

LL Cool J - Mama Said Knock You Out
Why: The opening line “Don’t call it a comeback!” pretty much says it all doesn’t it?
Why Not:
It might be a little too obvious of a song choice for Gil’s tastes.

Kanye West - Stronger
Why: Th-Th-That knee surgery didn’t kill him, therefore it made him stronger. It’s simple really.
Why Not:
The same reasons as Mama Said Knock You Out, not to mention that the team already used it.

Kelly Rowand - Comeback
Why: The name of the song is Comeback. Duh.
Why Not:
Did you listen to the song?

Jay Z - Public Service Announcement
Why: It’s been 4 months since he’s played, and nearly a whole year since he’s been truly healthy. Sounds like a good time to reintroduce himself to the masses.
Why Not:
I think LeBron has the monopoly on Jay Z songs.

The Rocky Theme Song
Why: All the training that Gil has put in to get healthy again has been very Rocky-esque.
Why Not:
Rocky is more of a Philadelphia kind of thing.

Jadakiss - The Champ is Here
Why: It’s been 4 months since he’s played, and nearly a whole year since he’s been truly healthy. Sounds like a good time to reintroduce himself.
Why Not:
Well technically, he’s not a champ (yet) so it would be a false advertisement.  On the other hand, he’s still the people’s champ.

Juelz Santana - The Second Coming
Why: His return from injury will be his second comeback this season.
Why Not:
I think Nike has the monopoly on that song, and since Gilbert is an Adidas guy…Well, you put two and two together.

UPDATE! TruthAboutIt throws in a suggestion: Guess Who’s Back by Scarface, Beanie Sigel, and Jay-Z.  Excellent suggestion.

Quick Rehab Update

Posted by JakeTheSnake on March 12th, 2008

Ivan Carter is reporting that Gilbert sat out practice on Monday with soreness in his left knee (the surgically repaired one).  Hopefully, it’s just the soreness that comes with getting back into playing shape and this isn’t the start of anything serious.  We’ll keep you posted on the situation.

UPDATE: See?  I told you there was nothing to worry about.  He practiced today.

The Gil II Zero x Three Zero

Posted by JakeTheSnake on March 11th, 2008

Complex.com has the details on the latest shoe design in the Gil II Zero series. It’s a collaboration between Adidas and and Hong Kong toy maker Three Zero, who made the action figure in the photo that comes with the shoe.

Don’t count on scoring a pair though, only 500 are being released and 300 of those are being released in Asia, so the prospects are kind of slim. Likely your best shot at getting a pair is by entering this contest, where you can win all 20 editions of the Gil II Zero.

Gilbert Arenas on Kobe Bryant

Posted by JakeTheSnake on March 11th, 2008

A few weeks ago, Hardwood Paroxysm came up with the idea of getting some bloggers to pay tribute to Kobe Bryant today.  The idea behind it was to allow some of the “haters” one day to show some respect for his immense talent.  Originally, I decided against posting something about it because:

  1. I’m not a Kobe hater.
  2. This is a blog about Gilbert Arenas.

But I started to think about it a little more and I realized that there was something that I could contribute for today. Of course, since this is a blog about Gilbert, rather than me do the talking I’ll leave it to Gil:
