Adidas Gil II Zero x SLAM

Just because the season is over doesn’t mean that all of Gil’s shoes are out.  SLAM Magazine unveiled their version of the Gil II Zero today.  You might remember that he’s been on the cover of SLAM before, and he helped with their NBA season previews for each division, so they’re familiar with each other.  Here’s the result of their collaboration:

Now before anyone says anything, allow SLAM to explain themselves:

Go ahead, shake your head, say the shoe doesn’t make sense, that it’s too loud, too strange, that you’ve never seen anything quite like it before.

And then remember who the shoe was made for.

From the start, Stephen and I wanted the shoe to reflect what Gilbert meant to us, as one of the most dynamic, hilarious, puzzling personalities in the NBA. And above all else, we wanted our shoe to be fun, and we tried to keep that in mind throughout the design process.

I’d say they accomplished their goal on that front.  Things get really interesting with this shoe when you look at the bottom.  It’s not your average sole:

So now when you’re blowing by people on the court, you can have Gilbert looking back at the helpless defender that’s left in your wake.  That’s pretty sweet.
