By now, you’ve probably heard that Charles Barkley got in a little trouble with the law recently and as a result will be taking a break from his duties on Inside the NBA. This leads to the question of who will take Barkley’s spot on the set. The Basketball Jones covered this very issue in their most recent podcast and brought up some interesting candidates to fill the job.
It’s a tricky situation because you can’t just grab just anyone to fill his spot because Barkley is such a big part of what makes Inside the NBA such an entertaining show for NBA fans and non-NBA fans alike. The perfect candidate to fill-in has to do a lot of things well that most people can’t do.
- Have a good sense of humor.
- Not be afraid to say something controversial.
- Have the respect that comes with being an All-Star multiple times.
- Be available for the next few weeks while Charles figures things out.
There’s only one viable solution.

The rest of the world would love this….but I get the feeling that Gilbert would only piss fans like me off even more.
But you know what? I say do it…..we need fodder because we really don’t have anything else.

just practiced and hurry back on the court is enough.

Well yeah, he’d get people angry but I think he’d get people angry in the same way that Charles Barkley gets people angry, if that makes any sense.

Ocho Cinco should be put in consideration as well. He has PLENTY of time to burn lol. Because to be honest, I don’t really want Gil to do it. He might end up retiring and start his career as an analyst. You never know with Gilbert :\

This is actually a not-terrible idea in the abstract, I’m not just sure how well he’d mesh with EJ and Kenny Smith. I just imagine Gil saying some point in his usual fashion and Jet just staring at him.

Gil would be an excellent choice but I think he’s being smart not to take it, if offered. He’s been low-key for the past 2 seasons now, and I believe he wants to come back with a huge BANG to start the season off right. By that, of course, I mean he’ll skip the rest of the 08-09 season since there’s no way the Wiz will make the playoffs.
I see him coming out in the first 2 games with 50 points. EACH.
